Dark Tower Audio Book Series By Stephen King: The Best Audio-book Ever

The Dark Tower series of Books and Audio Books is Stephen Kings Magnum Opus - his greatest work. They are fantastic on Audio Book - in total more than 120 hours of listening in seven books.

The series revolves around the quest of Roland Deschain (The Gunslinger) to reach the Dark Tower.

Some of the other books share some of the different worlds of the Dark Tower - while others share characters. It is a complicated area to explain. For example Stephen Kings The Stand is set in a world that the characters in the Dark Tower pass though. Stephen Kings Salems Lot has a character in it that is very important to the completion of the quest to the Dark Tower. In fact I sometimes wonder listening to Stephen Kings Hearts in Atlantis, that many listeners would not completely understand the characters motives without having listened to The Dark Tower. So listening to The Dark Tower series can get you listening to other Stephen King audio books and understanding the connections.

The Voices of the Dark Tower Audio Books

The first four Dark Tower Audio books were voiced by Frank Muller, and I think he did a fantastic job. Unfortunately Frank Muller had a terrible motorbike accident, and that ended his audio book career. The Dark Tower books were then redone by George Guidall who does a good job as well.

I found the Dark Tower series fantastic. It is different to other Stephen King books in that The Dark Tower is more Fantasy/Science Fiction than horror. Without giving away the story Stephen King has alternative worlds - stange devices - different pasts and futures. In lots of ways its a "Road Movie" - a quest - the trials/dangers and deaths or the characters along the journey. (It will never be made into a movie - it is much too long). Similar in some ways to the Lord of the Rings. I think if you liked the Lord of the Rings you would enjoy the Dark Tower series.
